Vyacheslav Lyakh

Vyacheslav Petrovich Lyakh — Candidate Master of Sports of the USSR in Mountaineering, "Snow Leopard", Honoured Rescuer, holder of the orders "Edelweiss" and "Friendship of Peoples". In 1964, during a fall from the slope of Teke-Tor Peak, he received a second-group disability, but did not abandon mountaineering. In 1969, with Valery Bezzubkin's team, he ascended Svobodnaya Koreya Peak (4,777 m, 1st place in the USSR Championship). Holder of the "Golden Badge" (the thousandth climber to summit Lenin Peak, 7,134 m). In 1972 he fulfilled the requirements for the title "Snow Leopard".

From 1973 – instructor of the Ala-Archa Rescue and Control Post. He led the construction of the hut at the Ratsek site (now – Ratsek Hut). He headed the joint rescue team after the earthquake in Armenia in 1988. After the dissolution of the USSR, he devoted himself to service in the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
