Evgeny Darmin

Evgeny Nikolaevich Darmin — Master of Sports of the USSR in Mountaineering, instructor, "Snow Leopard", 1st-class in orienteering. From childhood he was involved in tourism under the guidance of Z. Vdovkina. From 1974 in the "Polytechnic" section under A. Tustukbaev, and from 1976 – in the "SKIF" section (head – F. Popov).

He completed such ascents as Oguz-Bashi Peak (5,181 m, grade 5A), the traverse of Korona – Bailyan-Bashi peaks (5A), the traverse of Scriabin – Dvurogaya peaks (5B), Kyrgyzstan Peak (5B, 1st place in the championship of the Central Council of the Trade-Union Sports Society "Burevestnik"), Blyukher Peak (4,720 m, 5A), Dzhigit (5,170 m, via the "sickles" route 5B), again Dzhigit (via the centre of the north face, grade 6), and many others. He most often went first on technically difficult routes. He led ascents to the Eastern summit of Oguz-Bashi (5,018 m, grade 5B+1), and to Shokalsky Peak (5,722 m, grade 6).

In 1987 he ascended three seven-thousanders. In 1988 he was captain of the team for the most difficult ascent of Khan Tengri Peak via the centre of the east face (6,995 m, grade 6B, expedition leader V. Denisov). He has 26 ascents of the 5th and 6th grades of difficulty to his credit.
