Ivan Yevtushenko
1933–2008
Ivan Ilyich Yevtushenko ("Ded") — Master of Sports of the USSR in Mountain Tourism, photographer. In 1963, together with a team, he made a traverse of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range from the Kegety gorge to Issyk-Ata. In the 1970s and 1980s, he was a member of the Route and Qualification Commission for Mountain Tourism of the Kirghiz SSR. At the age of 59, he made an ascent of Svobodnaya Koreya Peak (4,777 m) via the Lowe route (grade 5A). He made many hikes and ascents alone.
He became known for a series of large-format photographic pictures. The photographs of "Ded" received high praise from professionals from different parts of the world.
"Ded" – Russian for "Grandfather" – a respectful nickname reflecting his age, experience, and paternal role among fellow mountaineers.
