Vladimir Samokhvalov
1937–2019
Vladimir Vladimirovich Samokhvalov — Master of Sports of the USSR in Mountaineering, 1st-category instructor. He underwent training at the "Baksan" mountaineering camp (Caucasus), graduated from the All-Union School of Instructors. He made numerous ascents, including: the traverse of the Jeti-Oguz Wall (5,168 m, grade 5B), Dzhigit Peak (5,170 m, grade 5B), Lenin Peak (7,134 m), Pobeda West (6,918 m), Pobeda Peak (7,439 m).
From 1964 he worked as a coach, head of expeditions and rescue teams in various regions and mountaineering camps: "Bezengi", "Alibek", "Ala-Archa", "Vysotnik", "Ala-Too", "Tuyuk-Su". On the instruction of the All-Union Council of the Trade-Union Sports Society, he carried out a helicopter survey and aerial photography (photographer I. Karavashkin) of the little-studied Kyrgyz-Ata mountain massif. In 1983–1986 – director of the Ala-Archa mountaineering camp.
