Vladimir Vakurin

Vladimir Viktorovich Vakurin — Master of Sports of the USSR in Mountaineering, instructor, 1st-class in cross-country skiing. A graduate of the "Polytechnic" section (head – A. Tustukbaev), then of the "SKIF" section (head – F. Popov). Participant in ascents of Kyrgyzstan Peak (4,840 m, grade 5B, 1st place in the championship of the Central Council of the Trade-Union Sports Society "Burevestnik"), Lenin Peak (7,134 m), the 5th Tower of Korona (4,860 m, 5A), Svobodnaya Koreya (4,777 m, 5A), the traverse of Scriabin (4,753 m) – Dvurogaya (4,814 m, 5B) peaks, and many others.

He led ascents to the 1st and 5th Towers of Korona (grade 5B), to Svobodnaya Koreya (Bezzubkin's route, grade 6A, 1st place in the championship of camps and rescue posts of Central Asia), to Dzhigit (5,170 m, via the centre of the north face, grade 6, 1st place in the championship of Central Asian camps and rescue posts), and led the "SKIF" expedition to Khan Tengri Peak. In 1985 he founded a section at the Mechanical Engineering College, and by 1990 he had trained several first-class climbers. After the dissolution of the USSR, the Ala-Archa camp resumed operations in 2011, and V. Vakurin returned to work as a specialist in graded routes.
