Alexey Kalashnikov
1960–2014
Alexey Viktorovich Kalashnikov ("Patrice") — Candidate Master of Sports of the USSR in Mountaineering and Rock Climbing, instructor. A graduate of the "Polytechnic" section (head – A. Tustukbaev), then "Selmashevets" (head – V. Denisov), instructor of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too Rescue and Control Post. Despite an injury, he was a participant in the outstanding ascent of Khan Tengri via the centre of the east face (grade 6B, 3rd place in the USSR Championship). He has about 30 ascents of the 5th and 6th grades of difficulty to his credit. He possessed his own special rock-climbing technique and was a rock-climbing coach at E. Nasonova's Olympic Reserve Sports School.

Section "Selmashievets"
Founded in 1972 by Valery Denisov. In 1988 Denisov led an expedition to Khan-Tengri – the first ascent via the centre of the East Face.

Section "Polytechnik" (The Polytechnic)
Founded in 1969 by Anatoly Tustukbaev. At its peak, Polytechnik was the largest mountaineering club in the entire republic and organized expeditions to 7,000-meter peaks.
